The last version I built was before they had finalised how extensions were going to work and was a little rough around the edges.

Here’s the development build for you to try out before I submit to Google Chrome Extensions. Enjoy :)

Download Now

You can help out with development by writing code at:
http://github.com/MrRio/googlepedia-chrome

or by sending me money to live :)

One way of making this work cross-platform would be to implement it in Javascript. So, that’s what I did..

It’s called jsPDF and can generate simple PDF documents using nothing but Javascript. No server-side needed. I’ve also got a few ideas for workarounds in browsers that do not support Data URIs well (I’m looking at you IE).

At the moment, it only does text. I’ve got some hacky code together that puts images into the mix, but I want to experiment a bit first to get it right. You can expect a new version next week. Subscribe to my blog or follow me on twitter and I’ll let you know :)

"We don’t make movies to make money, we make money to make more movies."

“We don’t make movies to make money, we make money to make more movies.”

- Walt Disney

Mario takes the Metropolis

Mario takes the Metropolis

"You’re right, no human being would stack books like this."

“You’re right, no human being would stack books like this.”

- Dr. Venkman - Ghostbusters

Googlepedia for Chrome Released!

Googlepedia for Chrome is now here! The installation is still rough round the edges since Chrome doesn’t yet have proper extension management features. It should be fairly straightforward though.

How to install:

Download Chrome Channel Switcher

Change your channel to ‘Dev’

Click wrench menu in Chrome, click ‘About’ then ‘Check for updates’, wait for the update to install

Restart Chrome

Download Googlepedia for Chrome

Open the file (it appears like nothing happens)

Close chrome, then open it again with the command-line parameter ’ —enable-extensions’ (you can do this by right-clicking the Chrome icon, clicking properties and adding it to the end of the ‘Target’ field, without the quotes, but with the space at the start)

Do a search on Google, Wikipedia should be on the right! :)

If you have issues - please report them. Thanks! :)

Please come back soon to get new versions and bug fixes, Chrome should have an auto-update feature soon. Oh, and also please support development by donating! Thanks. :D

I’ve finished writing a very experimental Google Chrome version of Googlepedia. This is still very rough. There’s no update mechanism for extensions (or any kind of management for that matter) built into Chrome yet. If you do install it, make sure you come back here for less buggy and faster versions when I manage to hack them together. You’ll need to update to Google Chrome 2.0

How to install:

Download Chrome Channel Switcher

Change your channel to ‘Dev’

Click wrench menu in Chrome, click ‘About’ then ‘Check for updates’

Restart Chrome

Download Googlepedia for Chrome (alpha)

Open the file (it appears like nothing happens)

Restart

Check the url chrome-ui://extensions/

Do a search on Google *fingers crossed*

If you have issues - please report them. There are quite a few bugs with this rough version.

Googlepedia for Google Chrome - First prototype working!!

Googlepedia for Google Chrome - First prototype working!!

"The Internet isn’t free.
